Kia Ora Warriors
The present Kia-Ora Rugby League was formed from two old Clubs when the sport was first played here in 1957.
These two old clubs were the “Celtic Rugby League” (Green & Gold colours) from Longburn Freezing Works & the “Kia Ora” Rugby League Club (black & white colours) from Palmerston North.
This new Kia Ora Club was reformed in 1974 & played in the 1975 competition; the officers were Sonny Rata (Chairperson) from Celtic. Mrs Pat Manaia (Secretary) from Celtic, Mr. Ben Manaia (Club Captain) from Celtic, Mr. John Chapman Jnr. (Treasurer) from Kia-Ora, Mr. Bob Governor (President from Kia-Ora), & Mr. Don Chapman (Manager) from Kia Ora.
The colours in our playing strips today incorporate the gold & emerald green of Celtic with the black & white of Kia Ora. These days you don’t see much of the white.
Currently the Kia ora Club has participated within the MRL competition for 41 years, and has a strong Junior programme with many young people sampling our sport at a higher level, such as district & zonal and national representative teams. We have also had many young players commence their development into the NRL system by gaining opportunities in this area.
If you are interested in playing Rugby League for one of the most successful and longest running clubs in the Manawatū, contact us on firstname.lastname@example.org
We have the best coaching and development programme in the district.
Junior & Senior Players are most welcome
